UAE Restaurant Delivery Downtime: July 2026 Benchmark
In July 2026, restaurant listings in the UAE were offline for 1.68 percent of their stated trading hours, an average of 9.5 hours of lost trading time per listing over the month. The figures come from Kitchain, a delivery intelligence platform, which monitored more than 12,000 listings on Careem Food, Deliveroo, Talabat, Keeta and Noon Food, checking each listing on a repeating cycle, about every 10 minutes, around the clock. Total monitored time: 6.82 million trading hours. A listing here means one restaurant location on one delivery platform.
July 2026, United Arab Emirates, measured by Kitchain
- Overall downtime rate: 1.68% of stated trading hours. Average per listing: 9.5 hours in the month.
- By platform: Careem Food 2.94%, Deliveroo 2.28%, Talabat 1.81%, Keeta 1.02%, Noon Food 0.74%.
- 38,830 offline incidents. Mean incident length about 3 hours.
- Distribution: 36% of listings had zero downtime, 72% lost under 5 hours, 5.7% lost more than 20 hours.
- 64% of unexpected offline incidents began between 22:00 and 04:00 local time. Separately, 3,759 failures to open on schedule were recorded.
- Recurrence: 13% of all listings measured went offline on 5 or more separate days.
- Per calendar day, Tuesday was the worst weekday and Sunday the calmest. Raw weekday totals are distorted because July 2026 had five Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Overall downtime rate and how it is distributed
The average UAE restaurant listing was offline for 9.5 hours in July 2026, which is 1.68 percent of its stated trading hours. Downtime rate is defined as offline minutes inside stated trading hours divided by total stated trading minutes. The distribution around that average is wide:
| Downtime per listing, July 2026 | Share of listings |
|---|---|
| Zero | 36.5% |
| Under 1 hour | 10.7% |
| 1 to 5 hours | 25.4% |
| 5 to 20 hours | 21.8% |
| Over 20 hours | 5.7% |
Total lost trading time across the panel was 114,822 hours in one month. Most of it sits in the top two bands: listings that lost more than 5 hours account for 27.5 percent of the panel.
A small group of listings that were offline for almost the whole month lifts the panel figure. Excluding listings that were offline more than 90 percent of July, which is the profile of a location that has left the platform while its listing stays in the catalogue, the rate for the rest of the panel was 1.26 percent and the mean offline incident lasted 2 hours 18 minutes rather than about 3 hours. Both readings are reported because they answer different questions: the panel figure describes the platform catalogue, the trimmed figure describes what an actively trading restaurant should expect.
The two bases must not be mixed, because they rank markets differently. On panel rates, July 2026 reads Saudi Arabia 2.88 percent, the UAE 1.68 percent and Kuwait 0.54 percent. On trimmed rates the order changes: the UAE reads 1.26 percent, Saudi Arabia 0.77 percent and Kuwait 0.54 percent, because the Saudi panel carries a larger share of listings that had left their platform. Any comparison between these markets has to state which base it uses.
Downtime rate by delivery platform
Measured downtime rates in the UAE in July 2026 ranged from 0.74 percent of stated trading hours on Noon Food to 2.94 percent on Careem Food. The same restaurant is typically listed on several platforms and its availability differs on each.
| Platform | Downtime rate | Mean incident length |
|---|---|---|
| Careem Food | 2.94% | 3 h 08 min |
| Deliveroo | 2.28% | 3 h 10 min |
| Talabat | 1.81% | 3 h 34 min |
| Keeta | 1.02% | 2 h 32 min |
| Noon Food | 0.74% | 1 h 50 min |
Platform rows cover the five platforms with a reportable sample. Mean incident length across all platforms was about 3 hours. The mean is pulled up by a minority of long outages: incidents that continued until the end of a trading window. Incident counts here are offline incidents inside stated trading hours, confirmed by a repeat check.
When downtime happens: hours and weekdays
64 percent of unexpected offline incidents in July 2026 began between 22:00 and 04:00 UAE time (19,576 of 30,594 incident start events in Kitchain’s event log). These hours fall inside the stated trading windows of stores that operate past midnight, since downtime outside stated hours is not counted at all. The single busiest hour for incident starts was 01:00 with 5,452 events.
Failures to open are a separate, separately measured category: 3,759 were recorded in July (2,906 stores that did not come online within the check window after their stated opening time, and 853 that opened late). For a customer this looks identical to any other closure: a storefront that should be open and is not.
Per calendar day, Tuesday was the worst weekday in July 2026 and Sunday the calmest. July 2026 contained five Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and four of every other weekday, so raw weekday totals are not comparable with each other and the raw ranking is partly a calendar artefact. Normalised per calendar day, lost hours ran 4,992 on Tuesdays, 4,928 on Thursdays, 4,238 on Wednesdays, then 3,194 on Fridays, 3,191 on Mondays, 2,671 on Saturdays and 2,402 on Sundays. Weekday figures from a single month should be treated as indicative until several months are stacked.
Recurrence: downtime is concentrated in the same listings
Of the listings that had any downtime in July, 21 percent went offline on 5 or more separate days of the month. That is 13.4 percent of everything measured. 43 percent of affected listings had downtime on 2 to 4 days, and 36 percent on a single day. Listings that fail repeatedly, often at the same hour and weekday, indicate a systematic cause at that location or platform rather than random platform noise.
Methodology
Kitchain monitors from outside: it opens the same public storefront page a customer opens and records what is shown. One listing is one restaurant location on one delivery platform. Each listing is checked on a repeating cycle around the clock, about every 10 minutes per listing. Downtime is counted only inside the location’s stated trading hours, so a store closed on schedule is not an incident. Overnight schedules are handled as such: for a store trading past midnight, the early morning hours belong to its stated window, and an outage is capped at the window’s end, never counted beyond it. An incident is confirmed by a repeat check before it is counted, so single failed reads are not treated as downtime. No point of sale integration, no marketplace login and no platform API access is used.
Hour of day figures come from Kitchain’s incident event log for the same period: 30,594 unexpected offline events and 3,759 opening failures, timestamped in local time. Aggregate downtime figures come from per day, per listing statistics.
