In July 2026, restaurant listings in Saudi Arabia monitored by Kitchain were offline for 2.88 percent of their stated trading hours. Most of that figure comes from a small group of listings that were offline nearly the whole month: excluding the 5.6 percent of listings that were offline more than 90 percent of the time, the rate for the remaining panel was 0.77 percent. The figures come from monitoring of listings almost all on HungerStation, checked on a repeating cycle around the clock, about every 10 minutes. Total monitored time: 1.09 million trading hours. A listing is one restaurant location on one delivery platform.

Two downtime rates: with and without the persistently offline tail

The Saudi panel measured 2.88 percent of stated trading hours offline in July 2026, but the 5.6 percent of listings that were offline more than 90 percent of the month contribute the majority of it. With those removed, the remaining panel measured 0.77 percent. These listings also carry far shorter stated trading hours than an actively trading one, roughly 40 percent as many, which is what a location winding down looks like in the record and why a small share of listings can account for most of the lost time. A listing offline for essentially the whole month is not an operational incident. It is a location that has effectively left the platform while its listing, and its stated trading hours, remain in the catalogue. Both numbers are reported because both are real: the panel rate describes what the platform catalogue looks like, the trimmed rate describes what an operating restaurant should expect.

Incident pattern on HungerStation: rare but long

HungerStation listings in the panel recorded 2,295 offline incidents in July 2026 with a mean incident length of 12 hours 24 minutes. That mean includes the listings that were offline for almost the entire month, whose single very long outages pull it upwards. Excluding them, the mean incident on an actively trading listing lasted 5 hours. The comparable trimmed figure for the UAE panel in the same month is 2 hours 18 minutes, so incidents in this market ran about twice as long on a like for like basis. On trimmed rates rather than incident length, the Saudi panel reads 0.77 percent against 1.26 percent for the UAE, so the two markets change places depending on which base is used and the base has to be stated. The Saudi pattern is fewer interruptions, each lasting far longer: a store that goes offline tends to stay offline through the rest of its trading window or beyond. The operational consequence is that detection speed matters more than incident frequency in this market: each undetected incident costs a long block of trading time.

When incidents start

81 percent of unexpected offline incidents began between 22:00 and 02:00 local time (2,266 of 2,782 timestamped incident start events in July 2026). These hours fall inside the stated trading windows of stores that operate past midnight, since downtime outside stated hours is not counted at all. The two busiest hours for incident starts were 23:00 (731 events) and midnight (705 events).

Per calendar day, Saturday was the worst weekday in July 2026 and Wednesday the calmest. July 2026 contained five Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and four of every other weekday, so raw weekday totals are not comparable with each other. Normalised per calendar day, lost hours ran 1,347 on Saturdays, 1,221 on Sundays and 1,188 on Fridays, then 1,033 on Thursdays, 888 on Mondays, 811 on Tuesdays and 636 on Wednesdays. The heaviest days fall on and around the Saudi weekend of Friday and Saturday. A single month is indicative rather than conclusive.

Recurrence

Panel wide the Saudi sample recorded 2,702 offline incidents, of which 2,295 were on HungerStation and the remainder on platforms with samples too small to report separately. Of the listings that had any downtime in July, 14 percent went offline on 5 or more separate days of the month. That is 7.3 percent of all listings measured. 23 percent of affected listings had downtime on 2 to 4 days, and 63 percent on a single day. Repeated failures at the same location indicate a systematic cause rather than random platform noise.

Methodology

Kitchain monitors from outside: it opens the same public storefront page a customer opens and records what is shown. One listing is one restaurant location on one delivery platform. Each listing is checked on a repeating cycle around the clock, about every 10 minutes per listing. Downtime is counted only inside the location’s stated trading hours, so a store closed on schedule is not an incident. Overnight schedules are handled as such: for a store trading past midnight, the early morning hours belong to its stated window, and an outage is capped at the window’s end. An incident is confirmed by a repeat check before it is counted. No point of sale integration, no marketplace login and no platform API access is used.

Hour of day figures come from Kitchain’s incident event log for the same period: 2,782 unexpected offline events timestamped in local time. Aggregate downtime figures come from per day, per listing statistics.

Scope and limitations

  • Coverage: Saudi Arabia, 1 to 31 July 2026, listings nearly all on HungerStation. Other platforms in the Saudi panel were too small to report and are excluded from platform level figures.
